John Waters & Margaret Bowie .....

Post by angel » Thu Aug 18, 2005 5:08 pm

Hi

I am looking for info about John Waters Snr and Margaret Bowie. They had a son John Jnr born about 1826 in North Leith Edinburgh. I know John Jnr married and when he died but all I have on his siblings is a brother Thomas born about 1833. I do not know if ther were any other siblings.

Many thanks

Hi Heather,

A parent search on the LDS website gives the following children of John Watters and Margaret Bowie.
  • JEAN WATERS - Christening: 03 SEP 1821 North Leith, Midlothian
ALEXANDER MONNEYPENNY WATTERS - Christening: 10 APR 1831 North Leith, Midlothian
THOMAS WATTERS - Christening: 08 APR 1833 North Leith, Midlothian
ROBERT WATTERS - Birth: 28 MAY 1835 North Leith, Midlothian
Given the 10 year gap between the first two, it is reasonable to assume there should be more children, but they do not appear on the online IGI.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Hi Heather,

Be prepared not to take ages on adult death certificates at face value. I have seen them be wrong by more than 10 years. It depends a lot on how well the informant to the Registrar knew the deceased, and how old the deceased had previously told people that he was. Find him on as many censuses as you can. Calculate the birth years from them too. They are likely to give you a range of years to consider.

All the best,
