SP (and IGI) Index for 1830 Marriage gives the bride as Sarah Irvine or Ervain (husband Henry Fox) yet when I download the image only the spelling of Irvine is given. Where would the alternative name be recorded?

Re: 1830 Marriage Barony
Hi Trish,
I have looked at the OPR page and agree with you that the only spelling of her name there is Irvine, and there is no resemblance to Ervain - it is quite clear.
However, when you look at the Spouse's name and Frame number column on the SP results page, there are two reference numbers. In my mind that implies there is another document somewhere, but there is no SP link to it. "SARAH ERVAIN OR IRVINE FR4251 AND MR994183 634"
All the best,
AndrewP

Re: 1830 Marriage Barony
Hi Andrew - I did notice the two references and wondered about same - the IGI seems to have both names also, yet when I search with Ervain on SP and IGI I only get a single entry. I shall ask SP as to whether there is another record. I was hoping to find a reference to the bride's father, but perhaps I want too much.
many thanks

Re: 1830 Marriage Barony
Hi Trish
The index entry on SP is, -
25/01/1830 ERVAIN SARAH HENRY FOX/FR4251 AND MR994183 634 F BARONY GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 622/ 0160
In this SP index entry the '634' after MR994183 is probably an OPR parish number, but why that number when the proclamation is [OPR] 622/0160 I'm unsure.
The Family Search entry is for extracted entries as follows, -
Marriages:
SARAH ERVAIN OR IRVINE
Spouse: HENRY FOX
Marriage: 25 JAN 1830 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
Source Information:
M119693 1829 - 1831 1041480, 0994183 Film 6900812
M119693 1829 - 1831 0994184 Film NONE
The 7 figure references are to LDS microfilms.
Digging further produces the following, -
Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type:
M119693 1829 - 1831 1041480, 0994183 Film 6900812
M119693 1829 - 1831 0994184 Film NONE
LDS film 104148 is the Parish registers for Barony, 1672-1854 Church of Scotland. Parish Church of Barony (Glasgow, Lanarkshire)
Both LDS 0994183 and 09941834 refer to the Blotter registers, 1776-1854 Church of Scotland. Parish Church of Glasgow (Lanarkshire), but there appears only to be an LDS film for 0994183.
Why two separate references, I don't know !
See this TS thread for info - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1978&start=15 .
It's unlikely that the blotter register entry will include any more info than the OPR entry, the latter here being the proclamation only; but, unless you look, you'll never know!
New Register House certainly has copies of these LDS microfilms, but where (or if) they've ended up in the new Research Centre I know not. Many major libraries as well as some FHSs in Scotland will also have copies of the small number of microfilms involved, as may some libraries or FHSs furth of Scotland.
And of course, you can order the microfilm at your nearest LDS Fanily History Centre, for a small cost.
