Descendants of THE Robbert Burns

Post by Hugo » Sat Dec 25, 2010 12:12 pm

Has the family tree of Robert Burns, the famous poet from Ayrshire, been done and if so, where is it available?

I have just been told of a woman in her eighties who wants to know about her family tree. Her grandmother told her the family was related to Robert Burns. The name Gilbert Brown is common in her family.

Any help appreciated.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone. And thanks for the help you have given me albeit sometimes unknowingly.

Hi Hugo

Likewise re seasonal greetings.

Yes, extensively so, is the unsurprising answer.

PM me with your email address and I'll see if I can find the details of the couple of sites that have trees both going back to ancestors as well as coming forward not just from Rabbie, but also his grandparents, ggp's, etc., i.e. not directly via Rabbie.

My main problem is that we moved house 3 years ago and I'm not quite sure where my 4in thick Rabbie file ended up !

My thanks to you both. I have pm'd Montrose Buddie.

Recent thought (my ration for the week!) - Is the family tree available at the Burns museum?

I'd be surprised if it's not, but would imagine that it would be limited to the poet's descendants, legitimate and otherwise; but probably not going back that far, and I'd be amazed if collateral lines are brought forward.
