For those of us who aren't aware, (i.e. me!) does anyone know what additional features/documents, if any, will be added to the Mitchell with this move? I'm planning another trip up to the Mitchell in the near future to try and break down my brick wall (again), and it'd be useful to know in advance what extra bits and bobs might be available to help.

Best wishes,
Ann

From Roots Chat member Yokerbrian dated 15th March
Just to let you all know, the Park Circus Genealogy Centre - run by the City Registrar will be relocated to the 3rd Floor of the Mitchell Library from 22/03/2011.
There will be 20 terminals available for use - the centre will operate as it currently does at Park Circus ie seats need to be reserved and first come first served basis. No mention of change in Fees but she didn't have all the details to hand
It's been a long time coming, but at last we will have everything under one roof
and from GWSFHS
The Park Circus Genealogy Section will close for good at 4pm on Wednesday 16th March. The new centre at the Mitchell Library will open on Wed 23rd March. The telephone number remains the same.
I reckon you will get access to the same records that you can at Edinburgh as my old school chum used to get me transcriptions from Park Circus

sounds to me like very good move !

Brilliant news =D> =D> & what a sensible move.Park Circus was a difficult one to get to via public transport & for anybody with mobility problems.
It will be like a one-stop-shop in Glasgow marvellous. It has the BMD's & the OPR linked via computer to Register House.
Then off to the Archives for a search of those-my summer break is all planned out.
I'm sure it's a cost cutting move-hopefully too many jobs have not been lost but speaking from a selfish point of view-marvelous \:D/

I don't think anything will be 'added' to what the Mitchell already has.

Although the Genealogy Centre is now 'housed' inside the Mitchell, it is an entirely separate operation and will have it's own staff etc.

As Joette said - a 'one-stop-shop'!

Just remember, if you think you may want access to the archive records, to book in on a Tuesday when the archives are open till 8pm.

Otherwise you'll have to spend precious time away from your terminal!

Annette
