My 3 x g.grandfather David Sandilands was a Spirit Dealer in Edinburgh from the late 1850s up until 1906 (dates from the Edinburgh & Leith Trade Directories).
I was wondering if he would have required a licence to trade and if so, where such records may be kept today.

I know I looked up Tailor's directories there once.
