I am wrting an article relating to some family research. In it I refer to a local Argyllshire newspaper c. 1919. I know its name but for precision I want to quote the exact form of the title. It is one of the following (or variants thereof): 'The Argyllshire Advertiser and Lochfyneside Echo', 'Argyllshire Advertiser and Lochfyneside Echo' (I never know if 'The' is part of a newspaper's actual title or not) or 'The Argyllshire Advertiser & Lochfyneside Echo'. I hope you'll excuse the severity of my pedantic nature but I do like to be as accurate as I can regarding these things. All help appreciated.
Regards
Doddie
Proper newspaper title.

Re: Proper newspaper title.
Hi Doddie,
I would favour "Argyllshire Advertiser and Lochfyneside Echo". It looks like "the" should not be part of the title, and "and" should be spelled out, not replaced by an ampersand.
See http://www.edinburgh-gazette.co.uk/issu ... 4/page.pdf (bottom left article)

All the best,
