On the Census 1841 728/00 001/00 007 John Liddle show's John ag lab & wife Agnes with their 3 children, David 20yrs, Margaret 15 yrs & William 11 yrs, I cannot find Davids Birth entry.
George Liddle 1820 OPR births 730/00 0030 0007
Anne Liddle 1822 OPR births 730/00 0030 0019
Margaret Liddle 1824 OPR births 730/00 0030 0026
William Liddle 1830 OPR births 730/00 0030 0050
Any advice on where to look for David's entry would be appreciated, also on Williams birth entry's it give's John as a Steward, Hare-Law, what is a Hare-Law? and on the others Steward but I cannot make out the next two words,
any thoughts again would be much appreciated,
regards David Caisley

Re: David Liddle
hi David Caisley
I'm not having much luck locating this family on Freecen* - where are they living at the time of the 1841 census? The number you have given suggests Berwick somewhere I think.
In which parish were the OPR births recorded - Buncle & Preston?
Note that the 1841 census does not give relationships to the head of the household, so the people listed are not necessarily children to what appears to be a couple.
What you are seeing as Hare-Law may be a placename - though it is difficult to know without the exact wording and seeing the original.
Best wishes
Lesley
*just noted that there is no coverage of Berwickshire on Freecen for 1841, so that explains why I'm not seeing them!!

A search for "Harelaw Berwickshire" turned up references to Harelaw farm steading in the parish of Chirnside.

Hi David,
According to the FamilySearch.org site, John Liddle married Agnes Brack on 7 Jun 1812 in Ayton, Berwick
Is this the couple? If so, David Liddell (note the spelling) was born 22 Sep 1818 and christened 18 Oct in Chirnside.
All the best,
Sarah

Re: David Liddle
Lesley, Sorry for the ommission, the census was Runkle & Preston and the births are Chirnside, I am new to this but i think they are near Coldstream.
I have tried all variations for David's birth, going on the census it should be around 1821 so i have tried just entering Liddle with/without the mothers/fathers name but still no luck! it seems strange when you know he exisit's and still cannot find him.
thanks for your kind efforts
David

Re: David Liddle
Hello David,
Remember that the ages in 1841 were rounded DOWN to the nearest multiple of 5. So I think the birth I mentioned above in 1818 is the correct one.
All the best,
Sarah

Sarah,
I just got the OPR birth for David in 1818 and the very entry before dated 2nd April 1816 was for is sister Jean who I doubt i would have known about should it not been for your wise effort,
not a very busy church for births though!
thanks again David
