Looking for a 1965 grave in Glasgow?

Post by hunbun » Mon Mar 25, 2013 11:51 am

Hi all
I have a relative who died in Glasgow in 1965 and i would love to find her grave. I have her death certificate and her details are below:
Her name was Marion Moyes McQueen (m/s Heatlie) she died aged 72 years on 24 March 1965, she was born in Selkirk in the borders and was married to a Gordon McQueen, i dont know if they had children.
Her death certificate says she died in Shieldhall hospital, i know absolutely nothing about Glasgow as i dont live in Scotland so unfortunately cant get up there to look around the cemeteries, her address on the certificate says she lived at Kilchatten Drive in Glasgow and thats basically all the info the certificate gives me.
Is there any websites that cover this cemetery so i can possibly do a search?
Thanks in advance
Dawn :D

Do you know the name of the cemetary she is in?Even if you don't you could try phoning Glasgow City Council,if you give them the date of death and her address then they may be able to locate her lair,if it is a council run grave yard that is.If she was buried in a church ground then the individual churches would have the details but this can be tricky with so many churches now closed.Best of luck, don't give up you will find her :)

Hello Dawn and welcome to Talking Scot!
If you follow the link at the top of the Cemetery forum page called Cemeteries, Churchyards and Monumental Inscriptions; Links it will take you to some topics in the Talking Scot Library that may help you in your search. We just reviewed all the links in the TS Library, so there should be no dead links in the lot. Let us know if you find one. viewtopic.php?f=54&t=7143

Like you, I do not live in Scotland, so can't help with local knowledge, but other members may come along who can.

All the best,
Sarah

See the Evening Times, March 25, 1965, page 11, Death and Funeral notice in column 2 and also in the acknowledgements column 4. http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=QN ... %2C3408342

It’s difficult to read but looks like this one. http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/16 ... ematorium/

Hope that helps,
Alan

Later; column 4 doesn't seem to fit the picture.

I would agree that the Evening Times entry refers to the Linn Crematorium.

Unfortunately a quick glimpse of the online Book of Remembrance does not show much of the 1960's

Hi Hunbun

Just looking through and saw your post Falkryn got it right - if you follow the link below or click on his link the enter the date you mentioned McQueen Marion McQueen is there on the second page of the bottom row - it lists her name and "In loving Memory of a beloved wife and Mother" so it looks as though you have her there and with the statement "and mother" must have had children

Hope this helps
