Monday the 17 of Nov 1685
Patrick Beatone and Elspeth(?) Gall( ?) his spouse of yr (as in "here", i.e. in this parish?) ......had ane infant baptized ...Wm ??(William)
...and after that I suspect there is a bit about "before Witnesses" called sponsors maybe as I think I can see this word (looks like "3rs", third line from bottom...I can see "Wit" as a word though and I've not quite worked wout what is going on between the two "3rs" shapes, and there coudl be a name "David" in there too....) kinda looks like there might be three names after that, but they do not all start with capitals.... one may be William B---nan? (but if the first bit is "Witt" for winesses, then it is not William!) , Thomas Gall and the other called Patrick Gall (? it is the same surname as the spouse surname, so what ever that is, if is is not Gall!) , their occupation??, ... upon this day(eod die?) and I would suspect the last bit is probably to do with it happening infront of the congregation in a much abbreviated fromat or it could be the date expressed again as a "jaj date"....not sure as that would seem a bit over the top date wise, why state the date twice??. It could be an abbreviated from of wording written by the session clerk after each baptsism, along the lines of "by the grace of God" "the glory of the lord" or similar. This is where it helps to see things in context...is this repeated on each entry on the page, Tracey?
Would need to come back to this later (like tomorrow....!)
Best wishes
Lesley

Just noticed your post Wilma...sorry - you got Elspeth first! I think you are right with "of this congregation."
Patrick Beatone and Elspeth Gall( ?) his spouse of this congregation had ane infant baptized
towards the end it begins to look to me like "was borne upone ___day"....

Having seen the whole page now and having seen the text in context with other entries, it appears that the text towards the end of the entry, believe it or not, gives the day and time of the child's birth!
First time I have seen this in an OPR. Not quite deciphered the day and time yet but on first look it may be Friday(?) and the child was born at some time " at night".

Greetings Leslie.
There is another in Carmunnock OPR from our family lines:-
1799 Carmunnock Lanarkshire
Agnes lawful daughter to John CAMPBELL weaver in Carmunnock and Elizabeth KIRKLAND
born on the Sabbath 23 June 1799 between 5 & 6 in the morning Bapt. 14 July.
Would post the image but used up my allocation in the Gallery.

Ah, that is interesting Alan, as I'd not seen that kind of info given before on an OPR. Clearly my relatives were all in the
wrong parishes!!
Best wishes
Lesley
