Robertsons in Paisley .....

Post by Rosemary » Sun Jan 09, 2005 2:22 am

I'm looking for James Robertson, married to Elizabeth O'Hara, married in Paisley (I think). Their son, Samuel was born in the town in 1865 and married Mary Gold in 1887. By this time, James was dead and Elizabeth had remarried, with the surname Whylie.
In the 1881 census, at 89 High Street, Paisley, I have William, 24, Christina, 19, James 17, Samuel 15, William 13 and John F, 5 months. Can anyone tell me the realtionships between these people? Is there an Eliz, Whylie at this address, too?
Many thanks for any help.

These Robertsons were in two consecutive households at 89 High Street, Paisley. There were 18 households in total at that address.

I can only see ...........

All relationships shown are with respect to the "Head" Daniel, so that James, Samuel and William are most probably children of Isabella from a previous marriage...

Can't see a Christina and a John F ........... in that household but there is also at the same address, in another household (there could easily have been 12 or more flats = apartments at 89 High Street)

Sooo....... look up the birth of young John F. That will give you the mother's maiden name, and the place and date of the marriage, but remember that the registration of a late December marriage may not take place until the following year. Just look for the Paisley marriage between this couple, and this will give you a name that you are looking for......... and let you judge if there is any connection between the households............

Are you sure that the name was Elizabeth O'HARA and not Isabella O'HARA ?

Thank you both...that was most helpful.
I am sure that the three stepchildren of the Whylie's are Iasabella's, formally Robertson, nee O'Hara's children. She was listed under the name Elizabeth on Samuel's marriage details so a case of flexible names...but this gives me another angle to trace her further. Again, thanks.
