Hugh Wallis IGI Middle Name Index

Hugh Wallis site is one I turn to regularly.

It has so often helped me to get leads on ancestors. This week was no exception. One name stood out. If you have a Helen Pringle LIVINGSTON married to a Robert BLACK in your tree and you find a Helen Pringle Livingston BLACK, you're convinced there must be a connection. But, Helen, born in 1866, was the daughter of Andrew BLACK and Margaret BROWN.m.1862 Wait a minute, didn't Helen and Robert have a son called Andrew?

Scrolling down Hugh Wallis list again. What's this? Another Helen Pringle Livingston BLACK, born 1869? Must be a transcription error. But no, this time her parents are Walter BLACK and Helen BROWN, m.1863. And yes Helen and Robert had a son called Walter.

Andrew/Margaret and Walter/Helen chose the same name too for one of their sons. Patrick Miller Brown BLACK born in April 1873, his cousin Patrick Miller Brown BLACK born in June 1872. Cousins Robert BLACK were born in 1868 AND 1867. Thereafter the two couples found a little more originality in their choice of names for their offspring. Just as well because Ann BLACK and Annie Grieve BLACK were both born in 1864 within a month of each other.

Thank you Hugh Wallis for a dozen new pieces added to my Family Tree P puzzle.
