McBride Family "Vanished" .....

Post by momat » Sat Feb 25, 2006 3:28 am

Back on the same family again.

Archibald McBride & Agnes Montgomery
Parents of Agnes McBride .

Cannot find a Birth for Agnes McBride.
She shows up on freecen 1841 along with Father ,Mother and Siblings then they all disappear untill Agne's marriage 1858 aged 20.

A parent check on IGI brings up
Duncan 6 oct 1833
Duncan 12 June 1835
Curian 15 July 1833
William 6 Oct 1830
Two Births in 1833 ?
But no AGNES

Can anyone tell me if the name CURIAN is really unusual .
I have tried Kieran and other options .Nothing appears.
On Scots origins there are entries for this Family but they don't come up
on S P
Have tried Wildcardds etc; on S P. No luck.
Where to now ?

Hi Maureen,

On the online IGI, I see the four that you list above. However, two of these are extracted from the records (the OPRs) and two are entries submitted to the LDS. William (06-Oct-1830) and Duncan (06-Oct-1833) are from the OPRs; and Curian (06-Oct-1833) and Duncan (04-Sep-1835) are the submitted enties. The two extracted entries should be on SP.

I would suspect that Curian is someone's mis-reading of Duncan (hence same date as Duncan). Have you seen the OPR? Is the writing diffcult to read?

It may be that there were more children who were not baptized, or whose baptism was not recorded, or the OPR has not survived. That could include Agnes. Hopefully when the 1851 census comes online, it may help you with this family group.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Hi Maureen

From the BIVRI disks there is a Duncan chr 6 Oct 1833 and it states his Birthdate was 15 July 1833. This matches the IGI record of Curian so I can only assume they were twins.....ALTHO....I haven't found the OPR BC on SP for wee Curian. Do you spose someone mistranscribed Duncan as Curian??????hmmmmm....I wonder..... Unfortunately there is no record of an Agnes here either. When the 1851 census comes online hopefully you can locate the family then.

You have to use wildcards to find the OPR births on SP...here for example are the two Duncans.....note the spelling differences!!

1 06/10/1833 MACBRIDE DUNCAN ARCHIBALD MACBRIDE/AGNES MONTGOMERY FR588 M PAISLEY HIGH 573/01 003
2 12/06/1835 MCBRYDE DUNCAN ARCHIBALD MCBRYDE/AGNES MONTGOMERY FR2231 M ABBEY (PAISLEY) 559/00 007

Best wishes
Jean

Thanks Jean,

I think Curian is a transciption error .
I shall check the 2 entries for Duncans and pray that the
1851 Census appears (holding my breath) soon.

Re McBride Family "Vanished"

Post by Jack » Sat Feb 25, 2006 4:29 pm

Hi Maureen,
This could be the family in Glasgow 1851.
An initial "M" after Ann (Agnes?) & William's names could possibly be expected,
but it didn't look like any other "M" on the page, and was nearer a "W" (but not exactly the same).
Anyhow, either Ann is Agnes, or Ann is another wife.

Hello Jack,

Thank you,
it looks like you hit the Jackpot again.
It would appear to be them.
William and Agnes Jr are the correct ages.
Wonder what became of Duncan ?
Cheers
Maureen

Re 1851 McBride - correction

Post by Jack » Wed Mar 01, 2006 10:28 pm

Hi Maureen,
I'd a closer look at the 1851 census page, and now believe that Ann & William didn't have a 'W' in their name.
It looks like it was 'Mc Do', and Agnes & Archd. had just 'Do'. The wee 'c' was difficult to see.
The enumerator wrote the capital 'M' in two different styles, even on the same pages, and one was rather similar to his 'W'.
Below are how the names appeared - hope this explains my possible 'W'!

ps, i couldn't see a suitable Duncan in 1851 Glasgow - maybe once SP put the all Scotland online he'll be found.
Do you know that he did survive to adulthood?

Hello Jack,

I never knew of a Duncan McBride until the other week when I started searching this branch of the tree.
I will wait an see if he appears else where in time.

Thanks,
Cheers.

A different Duncan McBride

Post by Jack » Thu Mar 02, 2006 12:59 pm

Hi Maureen,
I forgot to say that this Duncan probably isn't "yours".
Duncan McBRIDE (23) & Christina ARBUCKLE (22) on 8 FEB 1856, Blythswood (LDS submission).
Looks like he was born in Greenock 1833 - parents Daniel McBRIDE & Agnes HOOD.
