Searching OPR films .....

I need someones opinion. I'm thinking that perhaps if I search the microfilms of Old and New Monkland I might find my Elizabeth Rewcastle. I started at the beginning thinking that if I find any Rewcastles or Newcastles that they will surely be my ancestors and that maybe the extractors missed something. I spent 2 hours yesterday looking at 1706 -1717. If I continue this will take ages. I am finding names of other ancestors and I'm writing that information down. Is this a good thing to do, or am I nuts? I sure enjoy TalkingScots and when I get discouraged I always end up finding something that gives me hope.

So log as you are finding results, expected or unexpected, then I would say keep going, so long as your eyesight and patience can stand up to the job.

Have you had a look at the IGI index at www.familysearch.org or, if that free site doesn't produce a hit, the somewhat more accurate pay-per-view OPR index at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk ?

Hello David

I have the same problem with the same name I was at Edinburgh last year and I wanted New/Old Monkland OPR deaths and was told they weren't there. They looked in a book and told me I would ahve to to go where they would be registered which meant a trip to Glasgow. I did not have time to do this and I have a number of deaths to look up for that area. As the deaths were all OPR's this causes a problem as SP don't have them. So instead of going to Edinburgh I will have to go to Glasgow instead will will be more expensive and a longer travelling time. Oh maybe some day I'll get there.
