Hi,
The IGI has Elizabeth Thomson born 1775 or 76 christened at Old Monkland, Lanark ,or Denny, Stirling. On Scotish Church Records I found an Elizabeth Thomson christened at Cadder, Lanark. Looking at a map it has Cadder near Bishopbriggs East Dunbartonshire. I am anxious to look at the OPR for Cadder, but it will be a while before I have the time and can order the film. I've found Dykehead in three different places, so maybe it is the same with Cadder. Can someone tell me is there a Cadder in Lanarkshire, or what is going on here?
Thanks,
Alice

Hi Alice,
Cadder, the parish and registration district was in Lanarkshire. It may now fall into East Dunbartonshire. The politicians have tinkered with the boundaries over the years, particularly in the mid-1970s when the counties diappeared and were replaced by regions and districts. Then 20 or so years later, the regions and districts were replaced by unitary authorities. Some of the old names remained, but with boundaries in different places.
In the original county system, the neighbouring parishes, clockwise from north, were Kirkintilloch (Dunbartonshire), New Monkland (Lanarkshire), Old Monkland (Lanarkshire), Barony (Lanarkshire), New Kilpatrick (Dunbartonshire), Baldernock (Stirlingshire) and Campsie (Stirlingshire).
To see this on the 1890s parish maps, you will need to look at two maps that Cadder is split across.

Sheet 31 - Airdrie
Cadder parish is coloured pale blue and is on the east edge of sheet 30 and the west edge of sheet 31.
All the best,
