Post by Davie » Wed Jul 05, 2006 7:22 pm

Hi All
Would be interested if anyone has applied to GRSO to put records from SP onto a Family Web Page or Newletter (Not on the Net)

Hi Davie,

In order not to violate any copyright laws, I asked scotlandspeople for permission to include records in a book I was putting together. They gave me permission.

Hi Davie,

I recently contacted GROS to seek permission on using an image from their website. They replied very promptly and I was directed to the copyright information for further clarification- found here.

cheers

As the www.opsi.gov.uk/click-use/ site that Rab refers to is not that straightforward to navigate, here's the address for one of the required pages http://www.opsi.gov.uk/advice/crown-cop ... isters.htm

The relevant sections are paras 8(d) and maybe 8(e), but this covers only BMDs.

While the above might appear to be reasonably straightforward, there appears to be some overlap with the section on Value Added Material at http://www.opsi.gov.uk/click-use/value- ... terial.htm where there is the following section.

General Register Office for Scotland

ScotlandsPeople website
Priced statistical publications
GRO geography products
Commissioned research, analysis and advice
Commissioned data collection
Microform or electronic images of pages and searchable electronic text indexes of
- old parish registers
- statutory registers of births, marriages, deaths, divorces and adoptions
- open historical census

(please note there may be other parties with intellectual property rights in part of this material)

This area also has a section on TNA which includes a reference to censuses.

National Archives, The (formerly The Public Records Office)

A2A database
Census database
E 179 database
Equity database
Hosprec database
The National Archives priced commercial publications (issued with ISBNs and ISSNs and listed in the UKOP catalogue)
Seals database
The Learning Curve website at learningcurve.pro.gov.uk
PROCAT

If all this leaves you confused, then the best policy is to contact GROS and seek clarification and/or permission.
