Help .....

Post by Lyvon » Wed Aug 02, 2006 12:03 am

Hello, I am a new member. I have a question I hope someone can answer.
We are thinking of visiting SCotland in the future. Does anyone know where Altahee, in Aberdeen is? Below is where I found the name ( while searching for my 5x ggrandfather.

Co. of Aberdeen,Strathdon Vital Records year 1759
31. June 6 - Allaster Mcintosh alias Riach in Altahee had a son baptized called PETER
Thanks for any help.
Lyvon

Hi Lyvon and welcome.

Did you get that info from this site...

http://www.geocities.com/swalker7736/OPR_240-2_1.htm

If so, if you click on the "home" link there is a "contact me" link. The owner of those pages might be able to help you with the location.

Hi Lyvon,

The nearest that I can find in Strathdon is Aldachuie. This may be the place, but I cannot prove that for you.

Current Ordnance Survey map of part of Strathdon

While in Aberdeenshire, this is about 35 to 40 miles west(ish) of Aberdeen city.

All the best,

Hi Lyvon,

The Postcode Directory of Royal Mail's Postal Address Book for Strathdon has Aldachuie (AB36 8UJ), and Altdachie (AB36 8TH). I suggest that the latter is the Altahee you are looking for but unfortunately I don't have an Ordnance Survey map to search for it but will keep looking on Old Maps.

Hi Lyvon,

Looks like Bervonian has a better offering than the one I gave above - Aldachuie.

To see Aldachuie on a current map, go to:
http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/getamap/
Click on I want to get a map now.
Enter NJ372134 in the search box, then Go.
Using the controls to the left, you can zoom out to see the location relative to Strathdon or Aberdeen (a lot further out).

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Lyvon,

To view Altdachie, which seems to be the farm you're looking for, go to the website given by AndrewP, then enter the Postcode AB36 8TH in the search box.
