I am doing an ancestry project for school, and I need to know the top five scottish clutural values, and I can't find them anywhere. Can anyone help me please?

Hi there

I haven't checked out this site for a few weeks - too busy at work!

I'm really surprised that you've not had a reply to your post - usually our members can be relied upon to come up with great suggestions for a post like this.

Does your project looking for the top five Scottish cultural values relate to present day values, or perhaps historical ones.

I think it would be fair to say that in general we Scots find it hard to believe that there's anyone better than us out there .....

I hope some more members pick this up and give you more ideas.

1Honesty-we know we are a small nation but we also know that we have amongst our nation the most innovative, creative & Scientific minds of the past three centuries-think Alexander Graham Bell,Sir Walter Scott,Adam Smith,David Owen,Robert Burns,Robert Fleming just a few of the top of my head.
We also realise that in order for their endeavors to flourish that some have had to venture beyond our shores & often they return.
2A sense of Identity-we know who we are & were we come from-see 1 above.
3-Family ties-I think if you look at our history/present day culture our sense of family both by blood & by nation is inherently important to most Scots& descendants of.
4Anybody can be Scottish-we might not have welcomed them with open arms & it might take us a while to accept them but think Normans,Irish,Italian,Polish,Pakistanis et al.eventually we embrace their differences & integrate them into our culture-were else could you find Haggis Masala but Scotland?
5-Determination-we are like the little engine"I think I can" which becomes "I know I can"
We are still determined to decide our own future, make Scotland a Country to be Proud of.
Pride is probably the push behind everything we do.
