Post by Tracey » Thu Nov 02, 2006 3:37 pm

Does anyone know if Ancestry would have the same passenger records as Ellis Island ?
I have found someone that i have been looking for for a long time :D
I found her on Ancestry and there is also a record that could be her found on Ellis Island but this record isnt on Ancestry and as Ellis Island records are not the easiest to view i was hoping to find it on Ance...........

Can't exactly answer the question you're asking about Ellis Island records being on Ancestry BUT ...

I found someone who was looking for info on my Grandmother since Nov. 2005. Eventhough I'd checked for her at Ancestry.com and Genes Reunited last Wednesday, somehow it came up last night.

I'd say it's worth the try while they are offering free access Nov. 1, 2 and 3. The difference (I think) was delving into a related 'family tree' and not relying on the indexing.

I think there are many bends and kinks in the indexing systems of the LDS products, and I FINALLY managed to stumble around it

Good luck,

Hi Frances

Im begining to think they dont have the same as Ellis Island. On Ancestry you can just put name of ship and year and................... zilch ! so cant blame Ancestrys mistranscribing/slating there

Have you tried www.castlegarden.org - it seems to have information that doesn't come up in the Ellis Island main records. Grannysrock to thank for looking at it for me.

Hi Muriel

Yes, Castle Garden is on my favourites list but i havnt found anyone on it -yet !
I'm not having a problem finding the person per se (as she is on Ellis Island) but what i would like is to be able to view the image and subsequent pages in the same way you can on Ancestry. Also, to be able to save it to my pc or print it off. For the Port of New York, Ancestry have the years 1850 to 1891 then 1935 to 1938 and i am looking at the years between, typical

Hi Tracey,

When viewing the Ellis Island page that shows the small image of the manifest, under the page number (in light blue) is the word "NEXT" which brings up the next page which can be enlarged by clicking on the magnifying glass. You can page through a lot of immages this way.

I don't know whether this has been mentioned before here but

www.stephenmorse.org

is great for searching ellis island records. you can even track down the "missing" manifests here.
