New OPR Images - South Leith burials!.....

Post by setait » Thu Jan 25, 2007 2:15 pm

Hi Everyone

Like everyone else, I've been playing with the new OPR images and I've just come across an oddity. One of the South Leith OPR birth pages links to a page of "Records of Mortality" for February 1852. I've sent a contact form about the incorrect link but I've also saved the image. If anyone is connected to:

Margaret Robertson (m.s. Simpson) age 76
Aitton Gordon (female) age 72
- Russell (male) son of James (tailor) stillborn
H William Davies son of W H Davies age 1
John Murray age 33
John Warden age 73
Elisabeth Crawford (m.s. Steell) age 71

let me know and I'll PM you with the details

If the admin group are happy with the idea (and only if they are) I'll upload the image to the gallery as an example of the type of information you might find in burial records (if you're very lucky!)

All the best
Sheena

Hello Sheena,

You're always welcome to post any example of a record, which will give our members some additional clues.

Regards
Marilyn

Here's the link to the page of burials. It's the only page I've got - I don't have a copy of the film: http://www.talkingscot.com/gallery/disp ... ?pos=-1058

Hi Sheena
Thanks for sharing that. South Leith burial records are generally good. Many parishes just record names, if you are lucky, and not all parishes, if they have burial records at all, give the amount of detail shown here.... North Leith for instance has NO burial records at all from 1756-1799!

Best wishes
Lesley

I agree, there's a fantastic amount of detail there.

The only reason I was a bit wary of posting it originally was the fact that it was a full page of entries rather than just one record.

Interesting record samples. Hope I don't soon find myself a victim of 'Nature of Decay'. I much prefer the term 'old age', and I'm not really very fond of that

Strangely enough, I quite like "decay of nature" :? it seems to fit in well with burials and "ashes to ashes..."
