Hi Davie
Thought your post meant I was in luck and would find John Allison's details nae borra. Nope - but it could always be down to me again.
My husband's father was born July 1897 in Glasgow and ran away from home to join the army, when underage, in order to "get a horse".
I presume the joining up age was 18? The story goes that he was 16 only - hmmm. His indomitable mother traced him to Fort George and went up there insisting she wanted her laddie back. The authorities thought otherwise, however apparently they relented in that he was kept for a year in Britain instead of going with the rest of his group to Gallipoli.
We have a picture of him, baby faced John Allison, Pte. 25785 Lovat Scouts (on a HUGE horse!), and his 1914-1918 medal , so he was there. However, I can't find him on the new list.
Any hints?
Lorna

Hi Lorna,
What's just come out are the pension records. Do you think he applied for a pension later on? If not, his record may not be there
Nonetheless, there are plenty of John Allisons... assume you have looked at them all? There's even one who was "Discharged Having made a mis-statement as to age on enlistment."
But that one also said:
"Date of Birth according to Birth certificate: 23-6-1900" so it's not him. That one's address was 16 Society St, Parkhead, Glasgow.
I could keep on looking, but I assume you have already done so.
Regards,
Sarah

Hi Sarah
Yes, I have been through them all. I did see the Society Street one but dismissed it as the family were resoundingly South Side of Glasgow and I expect that even if he fibbed to begin with, he would have had to come clean after "Mammy" came on the scene!
Of course, I realise now that he would not have had a pension as he came through hale and hearty. I know there are other military sites and I shall get round to those in due course, nae doot. Just leapt in as usual without enough thought - sorry
Lorna (waiting excitedly for a "letter from America"

Hi Davie,
I read about the release on Ancestry.co.uk and how only A-B where availlable so far however I never could be patient and tossed my rellies name in to see what would happen. Several records for William Johnstone popped up so I assume they have added more records already though how complete they are I have no idea.
Happy Hunting,
HeatherH
