I am hoping to come to Glasgow in May [-o< . I have been looking through all the letters about Park Circus and I think that going there would get me what I am looking for and save me a trip to Edinburgh. The only thing I can't find is how to book a space. I see the telephone number but is there any way to contact them by e-mail.
Thanks,
Cathie

Re Park Circus
Hi Cathie,
Good to hear you're coming over - no doubt you will be too!
-
I think it's by telephone only - but i'll call them this Monday to check.
They are really busy nowadays, and i know that they are already into bookings for May.
By the way, the daily charge is now £14.
The link up to Edinburgh is great because you can now view all of the Scottish BMDs.
One wee drawback is if a screen image is a bit unclear that the fiche (sometimes clearer)
are only available for the old Strathclyde area.
But it's just occasionally i've had to use them.
-
Will let you know what they say.
Cheers - Jack

Hello Jack
As always your help is greatly appreciated. This chance to get over came up unexpectedly and trying to get everything lined up is turning into a logistics nightmare, but I know it will turn out all right in the end. I can call Park Circus if that's what I need to do and if they are all booked up I can e-mail NRH and change the plan a bit. I will also try to get to the Mitchell Library. I have three weeks and a couple of days. I will be staying with relatives in Kilbirnie, then Helensburg, with a couple of days in Dunoon thrown in. If this all works out the way I hope it will I will reward myself with gallons of ginger beer, many many fish suppers and all the jelly babies and turkish delight my little body will hold
Regards
Cathie

Hi Lesley
I hate to admit it but I never really liked the second national drink
and (I'll have to whisper this part) I don't like the first national drink either
$
Now that I know for sure that I can make the trip I am thinking of all the goodies that I have not thought about in a long time. I will probably gain a hundred pounds and I don't even weigh that to begin with!

Re 22 Park Circus
Hi Cathie,
I had a big sticker written in red ink stuck on the shelf above my pc,
and i still managed not to notice it yesterday!
But i did a few minutes ago and rang the Genealogy Centre right away.
They don't have an e-mail address for the Centre only - the one below is to the main office (in the same building).
(i hope i've written this correctly - you'll need to replace the AT to @)
mar~cprATced.glasgow.gov.uk
Just state the preferred day that you wish to visit, and they will get back to you to say if it is available.
Or better - a selection of days that you can visit.
That's why they prefer a phone call as they can tell you the situation there and then.
Any problems, then please just say.
Cheers - Jack

Hello Jack
I tried to call them yesterday but I misjudged the time because we had changed the clocks on Saturday and of course they were closed. I did get through to them today and spoke to a very nice lady. They are all ready booked through the third week in May but I did get to book two days in the following week
I am so glad you told me about them being so busy otherwise I may have missed out altogether.
I am still juggling my time but I am pretty sure everything will work out fine. Thanks again for your help
Regards

Hi Anne
My visit to Dunoon will be a liitle sad because it will be my first time there since my mother died. On the other hand I do have some very good friends there and it will be nice to see them again.
I have a little story you might find funny. Many years ago my mother's brother and his wife who lived in England were going through some hard times and my mother invited them to come and live with us in Dunoon until they got back on their feet again. Well, they did come but they only stayed a couple of weeks and then decided to go back to England. My mother asked them if there was something wrong that they did not want to stay longer. They said no but the wife (who was a real city woman ) said that it was just that she had been Dunooned. I was just a kid then but I loved that word! She must have felt that she had left the great city of Manchester for Brigadoon!!!!!!!!
Regards

Hi Cathie
Despite having been born and grown up there I think I understand only too well the concept of having been Dunooned!! Lovely word.
Hope you enjoy your visit and seeing old friends. Sorry your mum is no longer there. I dread that day!
