RCEs on-line

Post by Tom-W » Mon May 07, 2007 3:08 pm

I knew they were due online soon as the user group were testiing them but just got a surprise when I searched for a death. A big red button invited me to view the RCE for 2 credits.

Not sure my credit card can take the strain!

Shot on to SP when I saw this post as I have a marriage cert. that has a R.C.E. and I've been dying to see what it says for ages.

And guess what ....... I can't access the R.C.E - there's no red button!
What a disappointment. Why can't I access it? Aren't all the R.C.E.s online yet?

Are they not being released gradually starting with a certain area and working through them?

Hi Andy,

It says on SP that the R.C.Es are now online, so I assumed that meant they were all online!

Hi Caroline

Sorry to hear this but it's likely your RCE has been mis-indexed. It's possible as some in my testing phase were not found that should have been there. Please notify GROS via a contact form of the specific record and request a copy of the RCE you are seeking. It may be a while I would imagine before the proper corrections can be made in the online database.

Also please let us know how you get on with this or if there is anything else that seems to come up missing!

Best wishes
Jean

RCE's not there...

Post by meelymunch » Mon May 07, 2007 11:00 pm

Hi,
I also have two certs with the RCE stamp in the margin. Neither have the red button for me to press to check them out.

1872 SRI Birth GIFFORD,MARY ANN (Statutory Births 164/00 0091)

1875 SRI Birth GIFFORD,MARY ANN (Statutory Births 164/00 0240)

I have managed to look at at least three other certificates with the RCE stamp and got the extract to view and they were in the same Banffshire area.

I have sent a contact form to GROS - nothing back from them yet though.

Cheers, Carole.

1894 and 1895 appear to have been 'good' years as to details provided on RCE's. :D

My gg grandfather died in a work accident, that much I knew. The RCE gave details of how he fell heavily onto joisting on the fourth floor of a building in West Princes Street (this place was being built...I bet if I was in Scotland I could identify which one it was). Then it notes that he was buried at Dalbeth Cemetery!

The second RCE was for this man's father in law, my ggg grandfather who died of crushed ribs as a result of an accident, but the RCE told me he had been crushed under the wheels of an omnibus  and then died in the Southern Police Station Office.

Such sad news, but it gives me amazing insight into their lives.

These are the two I can recall without my tree in front of me (my computer is sttill being repaired). I am going to have fun when I get my tree back on a computer!

I have just viewed two of the corrected entries which I had submitted and I'm sure there will be a few more to view.

What's the situation if it's a divorce? I have one but it doesn't give an option to view - is that something completely different? What would the entry tell me if I was able to access it?
Looking for

Bain Sinclair Gunn Henderson Levack Dunnet Lyall More Corner Miller-Caithness
Wylie Brown Louttit Banks Hourston Spence Drever Bews Irvine Whitelaw/Whitelay Linklater - Orkney

If the divorce is given as an RCE reference on the marriage certificate, then the RCE should be online in the same manner as other RCEs. If it is not there, drop SP a contact form and they should have an answer for you.

All the best,
