Tree Detective Book

Post by Lizzie » Tue May 15, 2007 12:55 pm

Just received yet another email from Amazon. My book ordered December 25 2006 has been delayed for the third time. New delivery date is June 14 - 28 June 2007.

I wonder what the problem is now!

Well, Lizzie, I've put in a query to find out about the distribution in Canada of this book.

Amazon and Chapters, both had it on their sites a few months ago and quoted delivery and price information, and were offering pre-realse prices, if I remember correctly. Now, they're both saying 'Temporarily not for order'. My take on it is, that the book probably has no 'Canadian rights' at this point. In other words, Manchester University Press has not negotiated the contract with a Canadian distributor.

I'll let you know what I find out.

Thanks Frances,

You have probably hit the nail on the head. I noticed it it was a Northern University Press at the time of ordering, but this is now ridiculous.

Hi Lizzie and Frances

How frustrating! So far, (touch wood) I have not received an e-mail from Amazon telling me of another delay in getting the book. If I do receive an e-mail, I might cancel the order and reorder it from Amazon.uk.

This is getting to be ridiculous. What is going on with North America.

Hi Lizzie and Frances,

I didn't bother with amazon, I ordered mine through the british bookstore Waterstone's. I ordered it on January 6 and it was shipped to me on January 12. It was 9.99 (pounds). They charges me 19.95 for shipping, but considering I had a hard back book, and 4 story cd's for my son in the order, it wasn't too bad.

I have confirmed that the Canadian distributor for this book has been assigned and they are expecting the book within the next few weeks. They are a distribution company, so do not supply directly to the public. You should be able to obtain the book through a bookstore.

A Toronto bookstore that I have used for some time is taking orders for the book at the list price C$19.95 + shipping.

Sheila - Publishers usually have preferred vendors or distributors in 'foreign' markets. Where those contracts do not exist, or a title is outside an established contract, bids/negotiations take place.

The immediacy of the Internet is a double-edged sword: we learn about good things sooner, so it seems we have to wait longer.

Hi Frances

I see your point. It is just that others have received their books months ago, and this is the middle of May! Originally we were promised the book in January, then delayed till March, and so on. That is what is so frustrating about the whole thing.

Sheila,

I also live in California. I ordered my book from amazon.co.uk in December and received the book in January. Perhaps you should cancel your amazon.com order and try amazon.co.uk. You may have better luck with them.

Hi Ina

That is what I intend to do if I get another e-mail telling me that I will have to wait another month. So far I haven't received such an e-mail in the last few days. I have my fingers crossed that I will receive the book soon, if not I will cancel and reorder from Amazon.uk. :)
