Sasines

Post by ninatoo » Sun Jun 24, 2007 4:01 am

Hi all,

I was recently told that the Sasines are held at the Mitchell library. If that is so, I was wondering if SKS could please have a look for The Irvine Sawmill ownership? Family rumour has it that it was once owned by the Granelli family (this would have to have been somewhere around 1900 onwards).

I would appreciate someone looking for me very much.

Hi Nina
I don't know about the Mitchell and they well have sasines for the area you are interested in, but I do know that ALL sasines are held at NAS in Edinburgh. See:
http://www.nas.gov.uk/guides/sasines.asp
for more general info.
The indexes for some of these are now availbale on the PCs at NAS with a project on the way to make them available online at some point.

Best wishes
Lesley

Be aware that there's a difference between the sasine abridgements, i.e. short summaries, that The Mitchell may well hold, and the full versions that I suspect, but can't confirm, are only accessible at General Register House in Edinburgh, i.e. National Archives of Scotland ..........

The former may well supply all the info that is required by a researcher ....... but be aware that, until some quite late date, they're in Latin ...............

Nina,

Can't remember the name on the building but I got some brilliant sasine records from the office at the top of Queen Street in Glasgow. I was able to sit with someone and look at the records then I was able to get screen prints of the property transactions, for a small fee, of course!

Hi Nina
You could try contacting NAS - with a surname like Granelli it should be easy to establish if there are any relevant entries in the sasine indexes fairly quickly.

Best wishes

Hi Lesley,

Yes that is true. Nothing comes up in the online indexes for this, so it is worth a try. I will get to it right away.

Thanks for your help!
