Two marriage dates

Post by Tracey » Sun Jul 08, 2007 11:27 pm

This has probably been asked more than once but it has never happened in my searches before ........

Finally found a connection to my gt x 3 twin and been given a bit of info. Looking up the mariage date given to me, on LDS there are two dates - one on the 29th May 1824 Turriff the other on 30th May 1824 Marnoch. Neither are user submitted. I have done a search on SP and the same comes up although i havnt looked at the results (no credits today).

They both seem to be my ones so why two dates ?

Thanks

Hi Tracey

One member of the couple probably came from each parish and the banns were called in both. That's the correct procedure. The parishes are not that far apart so they live quite nearby each other.

They are actually probably the dates the Banns were read, rather than the actual marriage date, but one of the entries might tell you when the marriage took place. Not all do, however.

If not, I always use the later date.
