Dear All
My grandfather William John Blackley was illegitimate and was born William Johnston at Queensferry in 1862. On his marriage at Forth in 1891 he gave his mother as Jean Johnson (Maiden name Blackley) and his father as John Johnson, ironmoulder.
The only other item I have with the name Johnstone on is a wedding invitation from a 'Mr & Mrs Johnstone requesting the pleasure of my grandfathers company at the marriage of their niece Mary Burt to Andrew Pollock Gray on Wednesday 7 November 1888 at 6 0'clock pm at carstairs Junction Hotel'.
My question is this, is there enough information there to be able to identfy the Johnstone family, I've tried and failed
Thanks in advance

Hi Castlehayes
Welcome to Talking Scot
Not sure where you have looked - any luck with the census?
Have you found the marriage of Mary Burt to Andrew Pollock Gray and noted location, addresses and parents names for the couple? It is there on Scotlands People - just used up my last credit, so can't have a peek for you!

Re: The Johnstones and the wedding invitation
Probably, but substantial research could be required to identify all the possible aunts and uncles to whom Mary was a niece, i.e. all the brothers and sisters of her mother and father as shown on the marriage register entry.Castlehayes wrote:.....snipped...........My question is this, is there enough information there to be able to identfy the Johnstone family, I've tried and failed
